At LBE Design, we love celebrating small businesses that bring passion and purpose to the spaces they create. Jungle & Loom, founded by Anna Johnston in Washington, D.C., embodies that spirit, offering unique plant services and décor. We’re excited to learn more about Anna’s journey, her thriving business, and her love for plants.
What inspired you to create Jungle & Loom, and how has the business evolved since opening?
I was craving something more creative and self-directed than my corporate job could offer. Starting Jungle & Loom gave me the freedom to build something from the ground up, and it’s been incredible to see how much we’ve grown since.

With offerings like in-home plant consultations and workshops, how do you make sure your services meet your community’s needs?
We’re always listening. If customers express interest in something, I’m open to exploring it—if we can do it well. That’s how workshops and virtual plant care became core parts of our offerings, along with collaborations with local businesses.

What does a typical day look like for you at Jungle & Loom, with multiple locations and a new one on the way?
A lot of emails, inventory reviews, finding new pieces, scheduling staff, and streamlining processes across locations—it’s non-stop!

How do you approach curating plants and home décor, and what do you look for when selecting items?
Quality and beauty are everything. I’m committed to only selling products I’d personally use; if I don’t love it or see it working well in someone’s space, I won’t carry it.

What are some of your favorite local spots in D.C. to find inspiration or unwind?
I’m drawn to spots near our shops—Union Market’s Peregrine Espresso for coffee, La Jambe for a great cheese board, and Spot of Tea for boba. In Navy Yard, I can’t resist Playa Bowls’ smoothie bowls.
How do small businesses like Jungle & Loom strengthen the local community?
We’re a neighborhood option where people can come in, bring their dogs, connect with staff, and find exactly what they’re looking for. Supporting us also means supporting the small businesses we buy from, which keeps D.C. communities walkable and keeps money circulating locally.
Do you have a favorite LBE Design product that resonates with your customers?
The Round Two planters are my favorite; they’re hands-down the best quality planter in our shop. Our customers also love the Round Twos and Solid Goods floor planters—both are big hits!
